Duty on Foreign-built Ships

The Government of Canada is seeking the views of interested parties on a proposal to waive the payment of customs duties on future imports of certain types of vessels of a length of 129 meters or more by means of a remission order. The proposal to eliminate the duty on certain imported vessels is consistent with the Government’s Economic Action Plan, and the related commitment to take measures aimed at enhancing Canadian competitiveness. Specifically, tariff relief for certain imported vessels would stimulate renewal of Canada’s marine fleet, which in turn would support the movement of passengers and goods and generate increased economic activity. Pleaser find attached below a link to the October 24th Gazette Notice for this proposal: http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2009/2009-10-24/html/notice-avis-eng.html#d118
